Electrical safety is essential for every home, business, office, retail store, warehouse, and industrial facility. At Kiyan Electric Inc., we provide professional GFCI outlet and GFCI breaker installation, replacement, upgrades, and troubleshooting for residential, commercial, and industrial properties throughout the Greater Toronto Area (GTA). As a licensed electrician and licensed electrical contractor, Kiyan Electric Inc. is approved by the Electrical Safety Authority (ESA), carries $5 million in liability insurance, and provides a complete range of electrical and lighting services across Ontario.
Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter (GFCI)
A Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter (GFCI) is a specialized electrical safety device that helps protect people from electrical shock by monitoring the flow of electricity. If it detects a ground fault or current leakage, it disconnects power within milliseconds, greatly reducing the risk of serious injury.
Water and electricity don't mix; that's why there's a specific kind of outlet to help prevent shock. Under the Ontario Electrical Safety Code, all outlets within 1.5 metres (approximately 5 feet) of a sink must be GFCI-protected. In general, GFCI protection is also required wherever receptacles are located within approximately 5 feet (1.5 metres) of a water source, including bathrooms, kitchens, laundry rooms, garages, unfinished basements, utility rooms, outdoor receptacles, and other damp or wet locations.
GFCI Outlet vs. GFCI Breaker
A GFCI outlet protects the individual receptacle where it is installed and may also protect additional outlets connected downstream on the same circuit.
A GFCI breaker is installed in the electrical panel and protects the entire branch circuit. It is often the preferred solution when multiple outlets require protection or when upgrading an existing electrical system.
Our licensed electricians can inspect your electrical system and recommend the most effective, code-compliant solution for your residential, commercial, or industrial property.
