Importance of Hiring a Licensed Electrical Contractor:

In Ontario, it is mandatory to hire a licensed electrical contractor for EV charger installation. Kiyan Electric's team of certified electricians ensures safe and compliant installations, avoiding potential hazards and costly rework.

File a Notification of Work (i.e. Permit)

The Licensed Electrical Contractor doing the installation must file a notification of work with ESA before starting the installation. Ask for a copy for your records.

A Licensed Electrical Contractor will always complete the filing, and they will also provide you with the ESA Certificate of Acceptance once the work has been completed and accepted as compliant with the Ontario Electrical Safety Code.

Types of EV Chargers:

  1. Level 1 (120V): Uses a standard household outlet. It’s the slowest speed of charging for an EV. This type of charger is ideal for owners who have a garage or a dedicated parking spot and want to charge their vehicle overnight.
  1. Level 2 (240V): Requires a dedicated 240-volt charging station. This type of charger is perfect for owners who need to charge their vehicle quickly and efficiently. Level 2 offers a faster charging time than level 1.
  1. DC Fast Charging: High-power charging. This type of charger is typically used in commercial settings, such as shopping centers and rest stops.
