Dedicated Circuit Installation for EV Chargers
Your EV charger needs more than a convenient spot on the garage wall. The wiring that supplies it must suit the equipment and your property. To discuss a new charging circuit in Richmond Hill or the GTA, include your charger model and parking location in a free estimate request to Kiyan Electric.
What does “dedicated circuit” mean?
It means a circuit set aside for the charging equipment, rather than one shared with unrelated lights or appliances. The electrician checks the charger instructions and plans the wiring and circuit protection for the installation.
A spare outlet or empty breaker space does not tell you whether the setup is suitable. Leave that check to the contractor.
Pick the charger before finalizing the wiring
Different models can have different electrical needs. Give the installer the exact model number, not just the brand name. If you have not bought a unit yet, discuss the options before placing an order.
Our guide to hardwired and plug-in chargers explains why the connection choice matters.
Look at where the cable will run
The route from the panel to the parking space affects the job. Finished walls, a detached garage, and outdoor sections can all change the work needed.
Ask where the wiring will be visible and whether wall repairs are included. You can prepare for that discussion with our home EV installation checklist.
Check the home's total electrical demand
A separate charging circuit does not create more capacity for the property. The electrician still needs to assess the existing supply and other electrical loads.
If capacity is limited, ask which options fit the assessment. Our article on charging, panel upgrades, and load management shows how those choices differ.
Include the notification process
Adding wiring is electrical work. Ask who will file the required notification and arrange the applicable review steps. Ontario's Electrical Safety Authority says almost all electrical work needs notification before it starts.
Read our EV charger ESA notification guide for the questions to raise before approving the installation.
Ask for a clear installation quote
Have the contractor list the proposed connection, wiring route, equipment supplied, and any panel changes. Clarify access needs and exclusions so you know what you are agreeing to.
